Sensing Earth Space
I never found out if the Bengoh Stone exists. Chat GPT claimed it did, that it was large scale and contained animal like symbols and writings inscribed into it, but it wouldn’t share its sources.
- And Google had no record of it.
From what I gathered, these sacred stones form part of older megalithic folklore and have ritualistic and sacred meanings. They symbolise(d) agreements and transformations between the societies living in the jungle. Lelem explained to me that the cessation of headhunting was replaced by the offering of gifts from one village to another in exchange for peace. The gifts apparently offered between tribes were special ceramics or stones.
The people of Kampong Nyegol claimed to have never heard of the Bengoh stone, (I even visited the chief of the village to ask).
I was told the Head-Man of Bengoh village who might know more was currently uncontactable. Perhaps it was being guarded, or they really just didn’t know. The stones are still considered very sacred and spiritual. Apparently when the Bidayuh tried to move their stone to the new settlement, a huge storm suddenly kicked up.
