Arran Gregory (b. 1987, UK)
is a British Sri-Lankan land artist based in London working across sculpture, film and performance.
His work asks: what is a beginning, and what is an end? It seeks to understand the self as nature, rather than nature as outside of the self.
Working with raw clay and natural materials gathered directly from the land, he creates his Earth Body works: un-fired, site-responsive interventions shaped through time, weather and touch, in collaboration with local landscapes and communities.
His works explore ephemerality, ancestral and material memory, and the body as a site of perception. Through sculpture, photography, film and performance, as well as journalling, Gregory extends these encounters into forms that carry the work’s life beyond it’s place of origin and question our understanding of permanence. His practice is a means of grounding, a way of working with earth not just as material, but as teacher.
