The boundary between nature and the self is imagined.
To journey beneath our feet is to unearth where we're from,
and to rediscover what we are part of.
Blue Entity (Earthbody IV) is a sculpture with no beginning or end. Instead, it is a marker of the passing of time,

reminding us of our bonds to the ever-changing laws of nature.
We are part of nature, not separate from it. And we are shaped by the land as much as we shape it.
Collaborating with indigo artists TianTaru, the film follows the exploration of ancient building techniques in a process shaped by the colourful forces of nature. Blue Entity emerges as a reflection of the landscape itself, a quiet dialogue between the body, the elements, and impermanence.
This film marks the second in a series of three short films directed by @ArranGregory and @AlexanderInghamBrooke_ capturing the deeper narratives behind the encounters of the artist’s ‘Earth Body’ series - a set of experiential journeys creating from raw earth and found natural pigments whilst journeying into unique environments across Finland, UK, Spain, Bali and Borneo.

Sensing Earth Space
Titik Dua, Bali, Indonesia
27 Jan - 3 Feb, 2025

- A collaborative social space pop-up in Bali
by Ben Khan and Arran Gregory.

Beyond the faculties of the bodily senses lies an enigmatic pool of
consciousness, ever rippling.

The earth — our most connective tissue — speaks to us through these
ripples. The first and boundless breath animates us, as the divine
breath once infused spirit into clay.

Sensing Earth Space is an experimental exhibition exploring this
relationship, presented by Arran Gregory and Ben Khan.

At the heart of the space is Ben Khan’s bubble space. "The bubble,
akin to our bodies, lives simply through air — a soft tension that
holds the impermanent whole, a fragile housing for the breath."
Visitors are invited to step inside, attune to their breath and its
resonance with the body in relation to others.

Beyond the bubble, sculptor Arran Gregory presents Bali earth soil
as an offering— a scattered body across the landscape, bringing the
outside in. Visitors are encouraged to touch, shape, and mold the
soil, forming new expressions of connection and transformation.

The exhibition also features Gregory’s Earth Body series, created
across Finland, Spain, UK, Borneo, and with local indigo artists at
Tian Taru here in Bali.A series of short films directed by Gregory and Alexander Ingham
Brooke document these journeys, capturing his engagement with raw
natural materials and the environments they emerged from. In Blue
Entity (Earth Body IV), Gregory experiments with clay and indigo
from Payangan where the sculpture remains.

Over the week, Sensing Earth Space becomes an evolving open studio,
shaped by the contributions of local artists and visitors through
experimental dance, sound, and spoken word.

A ripple in the distance of consciousness stirs new ways of sensing.

My work explores the relationship between humanity and
the living world - a connection that defines our
perception of reality and our place within it.

Our cities, technology, and tools seem to define us more
than ever, disconnecting us from nature’s cycles with a
false narrative of durability. Our organism has lost it’s
balance in a world of concrete. To step into the forest
is to step beyond the illusion of permanence.

Over the past year, my practice has been influenced by a
series of transformative experiences whereby the forest,
mountain, river and jungle have become my studio.

I spent one month living in the forest of Finland, with no phone or wifi, no materials or tools. More recently I lived alongside the Bidayuh indigenous people in the
jungles of Borneo. These experiences have reshaped my
understanding of sculpture; openining up space for the
environment to speak through. To comprehend nature, I must first experience myself in relation through dialogue
of the senses. In this way, sculpture becomes an extension
of the mind’s-touch.

I work with raw materials such as clay-earth, sand and
natural pigment, drawing on ancient building techniques
within a contemporary framework. By bringing my work with
raw nature into the built gallery space, I encourage
viewers to experience their place in a world where natural
elements have become foreign.

Through this work I look to explore the nuances of our
primal psyche, contacting the organic forces inside and
outside of us, searching for an older, more universal
knowledge.

I believe art has the power to challenge, inspire, and
connect us — offering up a mirror to reflect things as
they really are. And our land remains our oldest mirror.

After practicing as an artist and musician for nearly a decade, my
studies in architecture has reshaped my approach to creative
practice. At its core, my architectural philosophy begins with the
body—its earliest extensions and expressions—and explores how
habit, ritual, community, and sound redefine space and the sense
of belonging we find within it. To me, this is architecture.

The Bubble Project is a lightweight inflatable structure that
embodies these ideas. Having been featured at the London Festival
of Architecture, Goldsmiths, and the Architectural Association,
the bubble represents an extension of the body—a womb-like space
defined solely by the presence of those who occupy it. It becomes
a vessel for intentional gathering and community, where meaning is
co-created.

Over the past year, my work has focused on the territorial scale
through a research-led exploration of nomadic tribes in the Ladakh
region of Kashmir. This project interrogated how cartographic
definitions of territory often act as tools of conquest, while
seeking alternative understandings rooted in pre-existing craft,
gathering practices, and community dynamics.

Beyond architecture, my evolving sound practice delves into the
origins of tonal instruments, focusing on the flute—the earliest
tool of melodic expression beyond the drum. By learning to craft
and play the flute, I aim to create sound works that enrich the
spaces I design. This exploration is about extending the body into
the ethereal, building a bridge to the mystic, and imagining
spaces that transcend the physical.

Together, these practices form a dialogue between body, sound, and
space—an ongoing inquiry into how we inhabit, create, and connect
with the world around us.

The body we walk in now is only spirited through our breath, the air we contract and expand through our life organ. The bubble is held by this same air, a fragile rippling structure inflated to hold us.

This bubble, hand cut and sewn over 1 week in residency at Titik Dua is made of lightweight ripstop nylon as a temporary installation, inflated by a single floor fan.“To uphold, inflat and see ourselves in boundless space might help us break down categorical and psychical walls in how we see each other”
